Børge Mogensen (1914 - 1972)

After having graduated as a cabinetmaker in 1931, Børge Mogensen decided to continue his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts where he graduated as a furniture architect in 1938 followed by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts - educated by Kaare Klint. Thus, it is no coincidence that Mogensen through his design decided to carry on Kaare Klint’s ideals, which is the typical functionalism characterizing Danish Design.  

A young 28-year old Børge Mogensen was appointed head of FDB´s (a major Danish staple goods retail chain) furniture drawing office, where he was given a free rein to build a collection. He chose to pursue the idea of ​​everyday furniture that could meet a Danish family's needs. Great functional pieces of furniture at a reasonable price. His furniture was at the same time both bound by tradition as well as they were contemporary. Among the best known are his Spoke Back Sofa, The Spanish Chair and the Wing Chair.

Børge Mogensen managed to create numerous, classic furniture through his collaboration with different manufacturers such as Fredericia Furniture, Fritz Hansen and Søborg Furniture, and he managed to fulfill his vision of creating simple, quality furniture with a timeless aesthetic.
